The Big Apple- Tourist Style

This list is actually for and inspired by 2 people: Michellephant and Jane. This was orignally created for Michellepant so that she could get in all the fun New York stuff before she moved out to the West Coast. Recently, Jane had an entry about her day doing touristy crap. She seemed to have fun. I think everyone should take a day and spend it as a tourist in their town. Here is a list of:

11 Touristy Things To Do In New York (also helpful when visitors are in town)

1) The new observation deck at Rockefeller Center. The view is different from 73 floors up!

2) One of those double-decker tour bus tours. I know, it isn’t what us locals do but those things have been known to kill people. Seeing that would REALLY make you a New Yorker.

3) Rent a kayak at Chelsea Piers and kayak in the Hudson River.

4) Take the trapeze class on the West Side Highway like the girls in Sex and the City.

5) Go to one of those uber-hip celebrity hangouts like The Spice Market or Butter.

6) The next time you are in Bendels and one of the sales people are being extra snooty, simply ask if they know who you are and tell them that you could have them fired like that (and snap your fingers.)

7) Have a giant picnic in Central Park in the spring and invite everyone you know.

8) Go to McSorley’s just in case you already haven’t. If you have, go again.

9) Meet someone for a date at the Met like in Moonstruck.

10) Stock up on all of your retro candy needs at Economy Candy on the Lower East Side .

11) See a taping of a TV show. Any one will do.

I went to the store at the Met on a Friday night once to buy a gift, and got asked to have a drink and listen to the free jazz upstairs!
