Lyricly Speaking

I don't like instrumental music. Never have. Never will. I think people who write great song lyrics are just geniuses. If done correctly, lyrics can take you over the range of human emotion. Here is my list of

8 Favorite Song Lyrics

1) "Wearing a face that she keeps in a jar by the door/who is it for/all the lonely people/ where do they all come from" Elanor Rigby The Beatles

2) "In the morning when you finally go/ and the nurse runs in with her head hung low/ and the cardinal hits the window" Casmir Pulaski Days Sufjan Stevens

3) "The girl come undone/ I tried to down play it with a bit about us/ you said you could take it as long as I could/ I could not erase it" A Sorta Fairytale Tori Amos
4) "The things you can't remember/ tell the things you can't forget/ that history puts a saint in every dream" Time Tom Waitts

5) "One of us will die inside these arms/ eyes wide open/ naked as we came/ one will spread our ashes round the yard" Naked As We Came Iron & Wine

6) "You gotta cry without weeping/ talk without speaking/scream without raising your voice" Running To Stand Sill U2

7) "Together we're going a long long way/ In time the Rockies may crumble/ Gibraltar may tumble/ they're only made of clay/but our love is here to stay" Our Love Is Here To Stay Ira Gershwin

8) "I'm thinking its a sign/ that the freckles in our eyes/ are mirror images and when we kiss/ they're perfectly aligned" Such Great Heights Postal Service

I could go on for days about my favorite lyrics- I am a total lyrics whore!!! ;D Just time for one right now:

“Life is a B movie: it’s stupid and it’s strange
It’s a directionless story, the dialogue is lame
But in the he said/she said sometimes there’s some poetry
If you turn your back on it, let it happen naturally
Oh yeah… oh hell yeah…”

It doesn't seem as cool when I write it down but some lyrics that always rip me up are from Radiohead's Creep:

I don't care if it hurts,
I wanna have control
I want a perfect body
I want a perfect soul

I want you to notice
when I'm not around
You're so fucking special
I wish I was special

Oh that's a great one too! Here's another one I love:

"Then the rainstorm came, over me
And I felt my spirit break
I had lost all of my belief you see
And realized my mistake
But time threw a prayer to me
And all around me became still

I need love; love's divine
Please forgive me now I see that I've been blind
Give me love; love is what I need to help me know my name

Through the rainstorm came sanctuary
And I felt my spirit fly
I had found all of my reality
I realize what it takes

Oh I, don't bet, don't bend, don't break (don't break?)
Show me how to live and promise me you won't forsake
Love can help me know my name..."
