They Beat Me To It

Those fuckers at Time Magazine. Just when I thought I had my own thing going here, someone in corporate America swoops in and takes something away from the little guy. Having said that, I do bow down to the

A Jolly Florida Holiday

I am back from my two week tour of the Sunshine State and things couldn't have been better. It's funny, in my 20's I was so anxious to start my own life. Many times the holidays seemed like a necessary evil. Things have changed! Here is my list of

12 Good Things About Christmas In Florida

1) Swapping stories with my uncle.
2) Seeing my mom.
3) Wearing shorts and t-shirts (of which I packed zero).
4) My mother-in-law's iced Christmas cookies.
5) Babysitters galore!
6) Going to the movies- go see The Good Shepheard BTW it was excellent!
7) Going to a party with my friends from high school. I had not seen most of them in 12 years. It was great to see that everyone is doing so well!
8) Shopping with out the worry of fitting a stroller into a dressing room.
9) Just about everything is cheaper in Florida. I had a $3.75 margarita.
10) Going out with my sisters-in law!
11) Watching my brother graduate from college. It was our family Christmas miracle. I have never been more proud of him.
12) Waking up on Christmas morning with a house full of kids. You can't beat that with a stick!

I see London, I see France

I wish I could see (insert LA starlet name here)'s underpants. Its become so bad with IT girls flashing their beavers that one of them had to publicly declare that she is excited to try Victoria's Secret's new line of undies. Oh dear! Now I am not an underwear nazi by any strech of the imagination. In fact, I think it i sgood to let the girl breath every once in a while. Having said that, every day shouldn't be sans paties day. I'm thinking about starting a support group for them. Here is my list of

8 Reasons A Girl Should Wear Undies:

1) Sometimes you should leave something to the imagination.

2) The right pair of underwear can be really sexy.

3) Unless you are one of my close girlfriends, I shouldn't know EXACTLY how you choose to groom your pubic hair.

4) Get a lucky pair of underwear. I thought everyone had a lucky pair of underwear. If you have a pair you will be or get lucky.

5) It can get drafty in those clubs and on the set. You don't want your vajay to catch a cold.

6) You don't want a "brazilian" from the leather seats in your car. Ouch!

7) Don't let your vagina outshine you. Britney's practically has its own fan club and Myspace page. I think Paris's has her own website.

8) Underwear can do a very good job of keeping out unwanted items!

The Big Apple- Tourist Style

This list is actually for and inspired by 2 people: Michellephant and Jane. This was orignally created for Michellepant so that she could get in all the fun New York stuff before she moved out to the West Coast. Recently, Jane had an entry about her day doing touristy crap. She seemed to have fun. I think everyone should take a day and spend it as a tourist in their town. Here is a list of:

11 Touristy Things To Do In New York (also helpful when visitors are in town)

1) The new observation deck at Rockefeller Center. The view is different from 73 floors up!

2) One of those double-decker tour bus tours. I know, it isn’t what us locals do but those things have been known to kill people. Seeing that would REALLY make you a New Yorker.

3) Rent a kayak at Chelsea Piers and kayak in the Hudson River.

4) Take the trapeze class on the West Side Highway like the girls in Sex and the City.

5) Go to one of those uber-hip celebrity hangouts like The Spice Market or Butter.

6) The next time you are in Bendels and one of the sales people are being extra snooty, simply ask if they know who you are and tell them that you could have them fired like that (and snap your fingers.)

7) Have a giant picnic in Central Park in the spring and invite everyone you know.

8) Go to McSorley’s just in case you already haven’t. If you have, go again.

9) Meet someone for a date at the Met like in Moonstruck.

10) Stock up on all of your retro candy needs at Economy Candy on the Lower East Side .

11) See a taping of a TV show. Any one will do.

Holiday Tunes

Christmas is supposed to be all about the classics- red & green, carols, home made ornaments, ect. Sometimes you just want something new, different. That is why I am so glad the pop community has continued to make Christmas songs for the last 30 years or so. I love a good classic but I also love something new. Here is my list of

10 Favorite Modern Christmas Songs

1) All I Want For Christmas Is You- Mariah Carey
2) Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)- U2 (yes I know they covered it)
3) Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree- Brenda Lee
4) Blue Christmas- Elvis Presley
5) Happy Christmas (War Is Over)- John Lennon
6) Do They Know It's Christmas- Band Aid
7) Last Christmas- Wham!
8) Christmas In Hollis- Run DMC
9) Santa Baby- Eartha Kitt
10) Jingle Bell Rock- Brenda Lee

Christmas Time Is Here

That's right! It is that time of year again and the holiday season is upon us. It seems to come quicker and quicker each year. One of the many things I hate about the holidays is the utter chaos of it all. When all the shopping, baking, travel and family mess starts to wrap up on Christmas morning, I like to watch a movie after the presents have been opened, of course. There is much debate in the LL household as to which Christmas movies are good. Jay-Bee hates A Christmas Story. Here is my list of

7 Great Christmas Morning Movies:

1) How The Grinch Stole Christmas (original cartoon version)
2) Elf
3) The Ref
4) It's A Wonderful Life
5) A Christmas Story
6) Love Actually
7) Scrooged

Get To Know

There are some things that I just can't get enough of. I have to have them. What I don't understand is why everyone doesn't want all this stuff too. Maybe you think I am crazy. Perhaps these things are blown out of proportion in my mind. These are things I am really into right now and probably will be for a long time. Here is my list of

6 Things More People Should Love As Much As I Do

1) Iron & Wine- its kind of a band, but really its this guy from Florida who makes the most wonderful music. It is melodic and southern and sleepy. The use of imagery in the lyrics is flawless. I could listen to Iron & Wine forever.

2)Little Britian - when Jay-Bee and I were in the UK in 2004, I had terrible jet lag. I was up late many nights there. One night I just happened to catch a really weird, quirky show. It made me laugh so hard I almost threw up. This is how all sketch comedy should be. Look out for season three to premiere on BBC America this March. I will be watching every episode.

3) La Vuelta- if you were at my 30th birthday, you know how about this place. If you missed the shindig, take the time and visit this little gem in Long Island City. Drinks- yummy. Empenadas- so good. Steak Sandwich- to die for. Point being, go to this resturant and enjoy this undiscovered gem.

4) Bust- my favorite magazine right now. Always has informative features and fun crafty stuff. They usually feature someone cool and relavent on the cover. The last issue featured Amy Poehler and had a great interview with her. It is a great read for the feminist girl on the go.

5) The Kiss- a fascinating and compelling book about a twisted relationship between a father and daughter. It is hard to find but if you can track it down buy it and read it. It is really a great story. It may be difficult for some people to read but I think it is worth it.

6) Burt's Bees- I love me some Burt's Bees. I use their tooth paste. I love their baby products. The coconut foot cream is a pedicure in a tube. Plus, it is all good for you and good for the environment. Everybody wins!!!
